DPS increases traffic enforcement for holiday

AUSTIN – There is a lot to be thankful for this year, and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) wants to ensure people are able to get to and from their holiday celebrations safely. Texas Highway Patrol Troopers will increase enforcement on the roads from Wednesday, Nov. 24, through Sunday, Nov. 28. DPS Troopers will be looking for people not wearing seat belts, driving while intoxicated, speeding and failing to follow the Move Over, Slow Down law, among other traffic violations.

The Madisonville men’s and women’s basketball teams are off to the races and have started their seasons on high notes in 2021. The men’s team opened their new campaign with a pair of victories over Hempstead Nov. 16 and Fairfield Friday while the Lady Mustangs won seven of their first eight matchups, including an impressive showing at a weekend tournament in Crockett, entering Tuesday’s matchup at Lovelady.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking information in the 1981 cold case homicide of 22-year-old Karen Lynn Douglas, of Harris County. An increased reward of up to $6,000 is now offered for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible if the tip is received before the next featured cold case is announced. A $3,000 reward for information leading to an arrest is routinely offered on all cases on the Texas Rangers’ Cold Case website.

Man convicted of assault and possession sentenced

Richard Wyatt Ledbetter was sentenced to seven years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after he was convicted of Assault, Family Violence by Impeding Breath and Possession of Methamphetamine, both of which are third degree felonies where the maximum sentencing is 10 years.
