The Tri-County Diggers Garden Club, which has members in Madison, Grimes and Walker Counties, succeeded in their community project this season to receive a proclamation for National Garden Week by the Madison County Commissioner’s Court.

Ruth Annette (Lang) Thomas; 86 of Iola, TX; passed away on Saturday; September 18, 2021 at her home. Funeral services were scheduled for 10 a.m.

Joseph Demetrius Farris was sentenced to life in prison in two cases of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, the maximum possible sentencing, after he pled guilty to the charges in August. In addition to the life sentences, Farris pled guilty to two counts of Possession of Child Pornography for the maximum sentence of 10 years confine ment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

After nearly six years as Madisonville’s city manager, Camilla Viator has decided to step down from the position on Oct. 1 and begin her retirement. Viator took over the position in January of 2015 and has overseen a number of drastic changes to the city she calls home.
