Rivera faces additional charge in ongoing pedophilia investigation

An additional charge was filed Friday by the Madisonville Police Department against Jose Jaime Rivera, a local store owner who was arrested on multiple felony indictments related to the sexual abuse of children Feb. 26.

NZISD terminates letter author

The North Zulch ISD School Board voted to terminate the contract of mathematics teacher Lori O’Neal at a special meeting Monday after it was revealed she sent out a letter to students accusing district personnel of nepotism and racism after they decided not to renew certain employee contracts, including that of her husband and fellow educator, Jim O’Neal.
Life skills students raise awareness

The Madisonville High School Life Skills class is celebrating the First Annual MCISD Autism Awareness Week, which began Monday and lasts through Friday. The celebration includes a daily walk around the track at Mustang Stadium, a bake sale and encouraging staff, students and the community to be “United in Uniqueness”.
Brown honored for over 30 years of service

Madisonville city officials honored Alderman Lois Brown for her many years of service during their regular meeting April 12. Brown served the city council for over 30 years and is not seeking reelection.
Rep. Brady announces retirement

U.S. Representative Kevin Brady announced Wednesday he will retire from the House at the end of his current term after serving Texas’s 8th congressional district for over two decades. Brady was reelected to his 13th and final term in November.

Cap: James Parker and family has loaned a 10-gauge, double-barreled, double-triggered shotgun that was produced in the late 1800s to the Madison County Museum and was put on display Thursday. Parker’s grandfather originally acquired the gun around 1900 when he traded a mule for it and it was used for killing wild game, a large portion of the family’s food supply at the time.
