Madisonville’s defense met Livingston’s strong offensive attack with intensity throughout the team’s loss to conclude district play Friday night. “I just felt like our intensity overall was better,” said head coach Russell Urbantke.

Local law enforcement officials pursued an individual fleeing from a routine traffic stop for speeding Tuesday morning on Interstate 45 northbound at the 134 mile marker before he pulled over and took off again, according to a Tuesday Facebook post by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

American Legion Post 84 in Madisonville held their Second Annual Brushy Creek BBQ Cook-off at their May Street location over the weekend. Proceeds from the event will help the Legion provide local scholarships to the area’s youth as well as fund their annual Thanksgiving and Christmas basket campaigns. Some of the winners (pictured above) include Michael Clopton, Curtis Hines, Michelle Hines, Jessie Taylor, Johnny Moore and Tommy Douga.

The Tri-County Diggers Garden Club, which has members in Madison, Grimes and Walker Counties, succeeded in their community project this season to receive a proclamation for National Garden Week by the Madison County Commissioner’s Court.

The Madisonville football team fell to 2-2 on the pre-district season Friday with a 49-16 loss to the highly-touted Lorena Leopards on homecoming. The Mustangs will compete in their final non-league matchup of the year in Livingston Friday before opening district play following an Oct. 1 bye.

The Madisonville volleyball team trounced Hudson in three sets in their homecoming matchup at MHS Friday after falling to Navasota Thursday. The Lady Mustangs battled Huntsville Tuesday and will open district play at MHS Friday against Mexia.
