Sex predator receives two life sentences

Joseph Demetrius Farris was sentenced to life in prison in two cases of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, the maximum possible sentencing, after he pled guilty to the charges in August. In addition to the life sentences, Farris pled guilty to two counts of Possession of Child Pornography for the maximum sentence of 10 years confine ment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Brookshire Bros celebrates 100th anniversary

LUFKIN, TEXAS (September 15, 2021) Brookshire Brothers Inc. whole-heartedly believes in being good people who sell good food and do good deeds in the communities where they live and work, and they’ve been doing just that for the past 100 years. Founded in September 1921, Brookshire Brothers has grown from a small general store in downtown Lufkin, Texas, to encompass 116 grocery and convenience stores, 72 pharmacies, 87 fueling stations, a fleet of trucks and trailers, a massive, centralized distribu tion center, a handful of coffee shops and two event venues.

Mustangs shutout Teague in road rout

Madisonville football team torched the Teague Lions in their first road matchup of the season Friday by a score of 35-0, with all of their points coming in the first half before a running clock was used in the second. The 2-1 Mustangs will return to MHS for their homecoming matchup against highly-touted Lorena Friday.
