With a year and half left in his term, Congressman Kevin Brady (R-TX 8th District), vowed to fight new taxes and proposed tax increases at Thursday’s Madisonville Lion’s Club meeting at thee Truman Kimbro Convention Center. A fan of baseball and tax reform, the retiring member of Congressman was first elected in 1997.

BACK TO SCHOOL

On August 10, the Madison Health Resource Center and Son-Shine Center hosted their Annual Back to School Health Fair at First Baptist Church in Madisonville. Families in need of a little help with school supplies were able to come and get health information from 18 different organizations such as the United Way, Texas C-Step, the Brazos Valley Food Bank, and Texas A&M Behavioral Health to name a few. MISSING PERSON

56-year-old Charles H. “Chuck” McQuary of North Zulch has now been missing for over two week as Madison County Sheriff’s Office personnel continue their search efforts. McQuary, 56, was last seen on Aug. 2 at roughly 6:15 a.m. McQuary stands at six-foot tall and weighs 240 pounds. He has grayish-brown hair and brown eyes. The Madisonville Mustangs football team began official practice last week and will compete in a scrimmage in Palestine at 6:30 p.m. Friday (junior varsity and freshman scrimmages begin at 5 p.m.). The Mustangs will also travel to Cameron for a scrimmage Aug. 19 before hosting Diboll to open the regular season in Madisonville Aug. 27. Both the Madisonville and North Zulch volleyball teams took the court to begin their regular seasons Tuesday with the Lady Mustangs battling Snook on the road and the Lady Bulldogs hosting Franklin. Madisonville will compete in a tournament in Franklin Thursday and Saturday and travel to Bremond Friday for a 6:30 p.m. varsity start. A funeral mass for Mr. Florentino Nava, 50, of Madisonville, Texas was held 10 a.m., Thursday, August 5, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Madisonville, Texas. Fr. Guillermo Gabriel-Maisonet officiated the service. Burial followed in Madisonville Cemetery.
