Gabriel Smith took the oath of office as a Madison County sheriff’s deputy Thursday, June 11, after graduating from the TEEX Central Texas Police Academy. Chief Deputy Curtis Klingle swore in Smith.

A 24-year-old man faces a felony charge after Madisonville police found dozens of handicap placards in his vehicle during a traffic stop, according to reports. Officials said a Madisonville Police Department sergeant stopped Jonathan Finch about 6:42 p.m.

Madison County Commissioners on Tuesday passed a resolution urging caution on data centers, accepted a state hazard mitigation grant and financed a new dump truck, but held off on a rabies control ordinance for a second time.

NORTH ZULCH — A Houston man died and a second driver was hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash in slick conditions last week, the Department of Public Safety said. Mujeeb Kharoti, 23, died at the scene of the crash, which officials said happened about 4:34 p.m.
