A Madison County 4-H member has completed a yearlong agricultural leadership program that brings together rural and urban youth from across Texas. Kanin Cleere, 16, finished the Norman Borlaug Youth in Agriculture Program through the Texas Youth Livestock Ambassador program earlier this month.

Early voting for the Madisonville City Council runoff election drew 282 voters through Monday, June 2, as residents decided between incumbents and challengers for two council seats. The runoff election pits four candidates for two council seats.

A routine traffic stop on Interstate 45 turned into a major drug bust when a Madison County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit discovered more than two pounds of methamphetamine along with cocaine and marijuana.

A 20-year-old Bryan woman died Saturday, May 31, after her disabled vehicle was struck by a distracted driver on Texas 21 at the Brazos-Madison County line. Elizabeth Sandoval was pronounced dead at the scene by Madison County Justice of the Peace John Stevens after the 4:45 p.m.

The Madisonville High School Mustang Mentors program is seeking volunteers to greet students Friday mornings throughout the school year. The program asks mentors to commit one Friday or more per month during the school year to welcome students at designated school entrances from 7:25 to 7:50 a.m.

The Madison County 4-H Club has recently announced a new photography course which is open to members in grades three through 12. This new program welcomes 4-H members who have traditional cameras as well as phone cameras but dates for the class are still being determined.

The directors of the Bedias Creek Soil and Water Conservation District met Monday, May 2, at Living Truth Church for their monthly meeting. They addressed flood structure inspections and growing concerns about screwworms approaching Texas.
