Scotty’s House, the Children’s Advocacy Center serving the seven–county Brazos Valley region, was awarded a grant from the Texas Bar Foundation allowing the organization to deepen its impact on the lives of children who have experienced abuse and trauma.

Father Daughter Texas will hold a weekend retreat June 6-8 at Land of My Grandfathers, 1047 Diserens Road. The nonprofit organization aims to strengthen relationships between fathers and daughters through educational activities and shared experiences.

The descendants of James (Jim) and Mary Johnson will celebrate their 70th annual family reunion in Madison County June 14. The reunion started in 1955, celebrating Jim Johnson birthday (June 19).

North Zulch Independent School District FCCLA students are seeking sponsors to help fund their trip to the National FCCLA Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida, July 4-10. Nine students will represent Texas FCCLA as regional and state officers, STAR Event participants and Knowledge Bowl competitors.

The City of Madisonville is accepting applications for vendors, sponsors and parade entries for its Fourth of July celebration at Lake Madison Park. The event will run from 5 p.m.

The Hilltop Lakes Equestrian Association will host its “Run FORE the Roses” Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 7, at the Hilltop Lakes Golf Course. The derby-themed tournament will begin with a 9 a.m.

Three council members took the oath of office at the Midway City Council meeting Monday, May 19, while longtime council members were recognized for their service. Mayor Randal Dorman administered the oath of office to newly elected council members Rhonda Owens, Penny Conner and Rex Newkirk at the beginning of the meeting.
